Captain Sloan Gurney, a North Fork captain, and Black Rock Sport Fishing Charters have been long-time members of the North Fork Captains Association. This association provides representation for Orient fishing, Greenport fishing, North Fork fishing, Long Island fishing, and New York fishing regulations. Like all recreational fishermen, whether fishing in Orient Point, aboard East End Long Island fishing boats, or on North Fork charters, Captain Sloan and Black Rock Fishing Charters rely on a strong and sustainable fishery. With accurate scientific data and proper fishery management, the New York Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) can establish fishing regulations that protect future fish stocks while still allowing us to enjoy New York fishing today. The North Fork Captains Association contributes real data and expert advice to the DEC when calculating fishery statistics and formulating sound regulations.

For the past half-decade, New York fluke regulations have frustrated many fishermen. Despite excellent fluke fishing in Orient Point and great catches by Black Rock Sport Fishing Charters—landing large doormat fluke—the shorter season has compressed our bookings, limiting availability. Striped bass fishing in Orient Point is considered among the best in the country, largely due to effective fishing regulations. The Black Rock Charter Boat has been fishing in Orient Point, Southold, and Greenport, primarily focusing on the East End of Long Island, with great success for over a decade. We recognize the positive impact that sound fishing regulations have had. The North Fork Captains Association has played a crucial role in educating Long Island fishermen and their representatives about the needs of North Fork and Long Island fishing.

The North Fork Captains Association continues to work toward ensuring that the New York State saltwater fishing license (SWL), a federally mandated requirement, is properly structured so that Black Rock Charter anglers will NOT need to obtain one. In addition to our charter party boat license, Black Rock Sport Fishing also holds a special Striped Bass license for charter boat fishing in New York, allowing anglers to catch up to six additional stripers on Black Rock striped bass fishing trips. Captain Sloan and the North Fork Captains Association have long supported fishing in Orient Point, Greenport, and throughout Long Island.
