Plum Gut and The Race are among the best Striped Bass fishing spots in the world, giving Orient Point charters a major advantage. These fish thrive in rocky bottoms, where strong currents trap baitfish, making these areas prime feeding grounds. We drop our bait or lures right where they feed—hooking a Striper is just a matter of time.
Unlike many fish, Striped Bass feed both day and night. We offer night trips, perfect for catching bigger bass without missing work. Our techniques include live eels, jigging, bunker chunks, trolling, fly fishing, and the legendary “Bucktailing” or “3-waying”—a commercial technique perfected by our captain for over 30 years.
Also known as Summer Flounder, Fluke can grow into massive “Doormats” weighing up to 20 lbs. Orient Point is famous for its spring and early summer Fluke fishing, attracting anglers nationwide.
These fish migrate to Gardiners Bay and Peconic Bay to feed on spawning squid. We drift with the tide, dropping bait—typically a squid strip with spearing—and wait for the telltale Fluke bite. Timing the hook set is the real challenge! The best fishing happens in May and June.
Known as the hardest-fighting fish pound for pound, Bluefish put up a serious battle. Just minutes from the dock, Plum Gut offers some of the best Bluefish action on Long Island. The season runs from mid-May through November.
Though often overshadowed by Striped Bass, Bluefish are excellent table fare. Smaller “cocktail” Blues are perfect for frying, grilling, or smoking. Our Black Rock Fishing Charters often combine Bluefish and Porgy fishing for an action-packed trip.
Nicknamed “Togs,” Blackfish is a true angler’s challenge. They nibble and chisel at the bait, requiring precision timing to hook. Found in rocky structures and shipwrecks, we anchor over prime spots and use live crabs as bait.
Once hooked, Togs fight hard to dive back into the rocks, requiring a strong battle to reel them in. Their firm, white meat—reminiscent of crab and lobster—makes them one of the best-tasting inshore fish. The peak season runs from October through Thanksgiving.
Commonly known as “Scup,” Porgies are fun, fast-biting fish that both kids and adults love to catch. Drop a piece of clam to the bottom, and in seconds, you’ll have one—sometimes two at once!
Despite common misconceptions, Porgies don’t have excessive bones. Once filleted, you’re left with tender, sweet, boneless meat, perfect for frying, sautéing, or grilling. For those who prefer the classic Mediterranean whole-fish preparation, our crew will clean them for easy cooking.
Fishing for Porgies with Black Rock Fishing Charters guarantees a great time for all ages.
Season: June 15 – Nov 1. Limit: 10 fish per angler (60 in Sept. & Oct.).
